Creating 32-bit ToolBook compatible DLLs for use with ToolBook

OpenScript ››

details

In the past, 16 bit DLLs designed for use with ToolBook, declared their C or C++ functions as FAR PASCAL.

In newer 32 bit C++ compilers (especially Microsoft's Visual C++) the FAR PASCAL function declaration is obsolete. This has been replaced by the new _stdcall declaration.

Because of this change anyone writing a DLL in Visual C++ that is intended for use with ToolBook needs to use _stdcall instead of FAR PASCAL when declaring the DLL functions in the C/C++ code.
