ToolBook has built in support for utilizing a bank of questions. In ToolBook this feature is called a Randomized Quiz.
For the Randomized Quiz feature to function properly, several basic rules must be followed.
Ensure that your bank of questions are in one contiguous block of pages. For example if your book is 45 pages long, you might have your bank of 30 questions located on pages 11-40.
Ensure you only have 1 question object per page.
Ensure that your questions have the same maximum score value.
There is no need to tell ToolBook where the bank is located. ToolBook will find the bank all by itself.
It does so by:
To enable the Randomized Quiz feature within a particular book, use the Behavior tab of the Properties for Lesson dialog, which is found in the Object menu. You will be able to specify how many question pages to randomly show to the user.
In order to test the randomization functionality, note the following.
After exporting the book to DHTML format, the randomization will occur as expected.
If you simply toggle to Reader level, you'll find that the randomization process will not function. This is intentional because as a designer you really don't want your pages randomly moving around in your book (which is exactly how the randomization process is accomplished). If you would like to test the randomization without having to export the book to DHTML, you can open the book in the Runtime engine of ToolBook.
To do this:
Various questions are commonly asked about this feature.
ToolBook permits the use of a single question bank. It is not possible at this time to have multiple question banks within a single quiz.
ToolBook does not currently support the ability to specify that certain question pages within the bank always be shown. Instead it always pulls randomly from your bank.
The bank must be contained within the ToolBook file. It cannot be contained in a separate book or in a raw form like XML.
